The college offers developmental, career technical, vocational and industry training programs including business, education, health, oil and gas, resource management, tourism and social services, as well as, trades and apprenticeship programs. Northern Lights works with regional industry, business, Aboriginal communities and government to develop and offer programs that prepare students for work across the region. In 2012, the Province announced the establishment of the BC Centre of Training Excellence in Oil and Gas with its headquarters at the Fort St. John campus of Northern Lights College. The college also serves the Nass Valley, through an arrangement with Wilp Wilxo¡¯oskwhl Nisga¡¯a, an Aboriginal institute. The college¡¯s region encompasses the territories of eight different First Nations, and almost 40 per cent of its students are Aboriginal. A First Nations Council provides consultation with First Nations communities and advice in developing culturally relevant programs. Northwest Community College offers university credit, developmental, career technical, vocational and industry training programs, including business, health, human, marine training and natural resources as well as trades and apprenticeship programs. The college also provides specific programs for First Nations and for the mining industry.
