Final Progress Report for Du Ju Park, February, 2009 I worked with Du Ju for this session from October 2008- January 2009. I had worked with her for the 2007-2008 school year.
Skills: Speaking and Listening: Du Ju and I discussed at the beginning of this session what we should work on, having been here for a year she was fairly proficient in her English. She felt she wanted to work mostly on speaking, getting the flow of the language and saying things correctly. We used speaking activities from the TOEFL practice book. We worked on giving descriptions and then giving opinions. She did this well and we had some great discussions.
Then we combined listening to an excerpt from the book and then giving an oral summary. We also worked on listening for the main idea and listening for details.
Writing: I started working on essay writing with Du Ju using the TOEFL book. We worked on brainstorming, writing an outline and style and grammar. I have really enjoyed working with Du Ju and watching her grow in her confidence and proficiency in English. She has taken the opportunity to get involved in many different activities, including sports, singing, band and Tai Chi. She made Canadian and Korean friends and was sad to leave.
